1. See Sagrada Familia from the Outside

The Sagrada Familia is one of the most iconic buildings in Barcelona and a must-see for any visitor. While entrance can be expensive, you can still admire its stunning architecture from outside for free.

I visited the church inside too and I have to say it was the most expensive church I’ve ever visited. Inside you can see a display of light through the colorful windows which is quite captivating.

The external façade of the Sagrada Familia is just as impressive. It’s adorned with intricate designs that beautifully showcase Gaudí’s architectural brilliance.

Standing in awe of the Sagrada Familia from the outside remains an essential and free activity in Barcelona.

I’ve been multiple times to see the progress of construction since it’s not yet completed. So, visiting the Sagrada Familia is a free thing you can do on every visit to see the progress.

Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a 10-day trip to Spain, make sure to visit the iconic Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

2. Admire the Facades of Gaudi’s Buildings

Take a stroll around the city and marvel at Gaudi’s masterpieces such as Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, which are both located on Passeig de Gràcia, a popular shopping street in Barcelona.

That being said, in my opinion La Rambla is the most overrated part of Barcelona. The city has so much better streets and neighborhoods to offer.

4. Get Lost in the Gothic Quarter

The Gothic Quarter is one of Barcelona’s oldest neighborhoods, with narrow streets and charming architecture that will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Wandering through its cobblestone streets is completely free and allows you to discover hidden gems.You can also find some of the city’s most iconic landmarks here, including the Barcelona Cathedral.

Getting lost in the Gothic Quarter is one of my favorite things to do in Barcelona, and I highly recommend it.

While most people take pictures in front of the Arc, you can also walk underneath it and admire its intricate details up close. Only from up close can you truly appreciate the enormous size of the arch way.

Watching the Magic Fountain show is completely free and is one of my favorite things to do in Barcelona at night.

When I first saw this modern skyscraper it immediately reminded me of the “Gurky” in London. But while the skyscraper in London can be found on many pictures, many people don’t even know a similar looking building exists in Barcelona.

So, taking a picture with Torre Glòries is a fun thing to do in Barcelona that also allows you to appreciate its modern architecture and surprise your friends who might not know about this not so hidden hidden gem in Barcelona.

9. Relax at the Beach

Barcelona’s beaches are a popular destination, especially during the summer months when they can get quite crowded.

If you’re seeking a more serene spot to soak up the sun and enjoy the Mediterranean sea, consider taking a day trip to Sitges. Just a cheap train ride away from Barcelona, Sitges offers beautiful, less crowded beaches.

However, if you’re visiting Barcelona during the off-season, the city’s beaches are quite lovely and less populated, making them an ideal spot for relaxation without the need to venture out of town.
