This is great for anybody disappointed at Stonehenge that you can’t get close to the stones. At Avebury, you can get close and even touch the stones. Instead of crowds, you’ll likely find yourself among sheep, as I did during my visit.
Avebury is actually larger than Stonehenge and consists of three stone circles. The outer stone circle is the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world!
I visited Avebury on a day trip from Bristol and I loved it. The atmosphere is so much more relaxed and the little village of Avebury which is located within the stone circle is super picturesque.
