Best Vegan Breakfast in Madrid City Center
Find out where you can find the best vegan breakfast Madrid has to offer in all-vegan restaurants!
A holiday without a delicious vegan breakfast would only be half as good. I just love breakfast and brunch! And I also love eating in all-vegan restaurants and cafés.
In this post, I’ll share all the amazing all-vegan places in Madrid which open in the mornings and have vegan breakfast on their menu.
I sampled all the food myself, and I have to say I had the best vegan breakfast in all of Spain in Madrid. No wonder, that Madrid is one of the best cities in Europe for vegans.
Best Vegan Breakfast Madrid
Frutas Prohibidas
Frutas Prohibidas is the absolute best vegan breakfast place in Madrid. It’s absolutely amazing! It’s not just super delicious it’s also so picturesque. So, no matter how long you stay in Madrid, you should eat breakfast here at least once.
We went there for breakfast on a Saturday in the end of October and we were lucky to get a table without reservation since it was very busy.
Their signature breakfast dish is vegan poached eggs on toast. The vegan egg was really good with a slight taste of kala namak, it even had a runny egg yolk.
Since the portion of the vegan poached eggs consists of two slices of bread, I recommend sharing it with another person so you can have something else afterwards.
We had the exotic smoothie bowl afterwards and it was also very good. And once again I was pleasantly surprised by how pretty the dish was.
They also have vegan pancakes, fresh juices, a wide range of hot drinks and cocktails. Everything you need for an amazing vegan brunch in Madrid.
Seriously, it’s so good! Just this delicious brunch makes Madrid worth visiting as a vegan, even though in general I think Barcelona is more vegan friendly.
Distrito Vegano
Distrito Vegano is another excellent option for vegan breakfast in Madrid. They serve breakfast between 10 am and 12:30 pm.
They have a wide selection of sweet and savoury dishes, from pastries and smoothie bowls to sandwiches and toasts.
You can upgrade each option to breakfast which includes a hot drink or upgrade to brunch so you get a hot drink, an orange juice and some yoghurt with cereal and fruit with it.
I upgrades the scrambled tofu to vegan brunch. The portion size was perfect for me and I loved the variety. It’s a perfect option if you want a few different things but you don’t have anyone who wants to split two big portions, like we did at Frutas Prohibitas.
Distrito Vegano is not just a great breakfast spot, they also have a selection of vegan tapas and sometimes they even have a tapas menu, where you a get a little bit of everything.
Freedom Cakes Café
Freedom Cakes Café is an all-vegan American-style diner restaurant near the popular Puerta del Sol in the heart of Madrid.
They have a big selection of vegan fast food from vegan burgers and hot dogs to milkshakes, pancakes, and cakes.
You can also enjoy a vegan breakfast at Freedom Cakes Café every day until noon, and brunch is available until 4 pm.
Breakfast options range from toasts and bagels to croissants and churros. It’s not the most healthy breakfast, but you’re on holiday, so who cares?
There are three brunch options, the first two consist of scrambled tofu, bread with avocado, tomato, and vegan bacon, and either pancakes or a cheese and ham croissant. The third brunch option is a vegan full English breakfast.
We ate breakfast at Freedom Cakes before we headed out on our day trip to Toledo.
LA LOCA de Enfrente
La Loca de Enfrente is a very small and cute vegan café in Madrid that only opened in 2023. It’s perfect for a quick breakfast or a snack in between.
They offer different toasts and baked goods for breakfast. I had the vegan salmon and avocado toast and it was really good. The cakes looked very delicious as well, but unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to taste them.
The only negative point is that the restaurant is very small, so it might be difficult to get a table.
Viva Chapata
We visited Viva Chapata on our last day in Madrid for tapas in the evening. There we saw a sign that they also do breakfast and brunch. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to come back to see their breakfast options.
It’s a great place to try vegan versions of Authentic Spanish food.
Final Thoughts: Being Vegan in Madrid
Being vegan in Madrid is really easy, there are so many delicious all-vegan restaurants in Madrid. And even though the vegan breakfast options are more limited than the dinner restaurants, you won’t be disappointed.
From the mouthwatering vegan poached eggs at Frutas Prohibidas to the diverse breakfast offerings at Distrito Vegano, Freedom Cakes Café’s American-style delights, and the cozy charm of La Loca de Enfrente, Madrid has truly embraced the vegan breakfast revolution.
So, as you plan your visit to the Spanish capital, make sure to indulge in some delicious food before exploring the city and heading out on day trips from Madrid.
And in case none of those vegan places I mentioned seem right for you, you can always get a vegan breakfast option at one of the vegetarian restaurants or vegan-friendly restaurants.
