15 Best Budapest Instagram Spots to Capture Your Trip

Are you on the hunt for the ultimate Budapest Instagram spots? You’re not alone!

Even though I’m not the most active Instagram user, to be completely honest, the captivating charm of Budapest’s scenic spots really resonated with me during my visit and made me want to be more active on Instagram.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the city’s most photogenic corners, from tranquil parks to vibrant ruin bars.

🤩 I love this Budapest Instagram tour for visiting all the best photo spots!

Best Budapest Instagram Spots

1. Fisherman’s Bastion

Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the best free things to do in Budapest

Fisherman’s Bastion is a dream come true for anyone looking to spice up their Instagram feed. The neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque architecture is a visual treat, offering a rich and vibrant backdrop for your photos.

The only thing you need is a photographer, which I didn’t have, so you need to imagine a person in this stunning archway.

Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the best attractions in Budapest you can see for free. And depending on what direction you face you have panoramic views of the Danube and the Parliament, the towers of the Bastion or the stunning Matthias Church in the background.

🤩 I love this Instagram tour of Budapest for the guide who takes photos of you!

2. Matthias Church

Right next to the Fisherman’s Bastion, you’ll find the equally stunning Matthias Church, another one of the best Instagram spots in Budapest. You should visit both attractions even if you’re in Budapest just for a day tour.

With its diamond-patterned roof tiles and intricate rose windows, the church stands as a testament to Budapest’s rich history and architectural skill.

You can get a great photo from the outside for free or you can pay an entrance fee so you can get the beautiful inside of the church as your picture backdrop.

I opted for something in between, a picture from the wall of the Fisherman’s Bastion, where you have to pay a small entrance fee.

Whether you’re capturing the grandeur of the exterior or the artistic nuances inside, Matthias Church provides a picturesque backdrop that can add a touch of elegance and historical charm to your Instagram feed.

3. Buda Castle

The best thing to do at Buda Castle is to walk in the grounds

In my honest opinion, while the Buda Castle itself might not sweep you off your feet, the castle grounds surrounding it are where the true magic lies.

You have the view of the whole city from the castle grounds or when you face the other way the castle gates. The castle gates are the most impressive feature in my opinion and I’m sure a seasoned Instagrammer could take a way better picture there than me 😉

4. Castle Hill Funicular

The funicular cars kept their original design

When it comes to capturing the Castle Hill Funicular, I firmly believe that the best vantage point is not from the funicular itself, but from one of the bridges that offer a clear view of the funiculars gliding past.

From here, you can snap photos that encapsulate the dynamic movement of the funiculars, set against the backdrop of the Castle Hill or when you face the other direction against the backdrop of the Pest side of Budapest.

So, position yourself on a bridge, get your camera ready, and seize the opportunity to capture the Castle Hill Funicular at the right moment.

5. Hungarian Parliament Building

The best view of the Hungarian Parliament Building is from the other side of the Danube River

The Hungarian Parliament building is a must-visit for anyone looking to add some architectural brilliance to their Instagram feed. This stunning building is one of the reasons why Budapest is worth visiting.

When you’re nearby you get to truly appreciate the detailed craftsmanship that the building showcases.

But to get the whole building in one shot, you’ll need to step back a bit. Actually, the best spot for this is from across the Danube River. From there, you can capture the entire structure, showcasing its grandeur in a single frame.

6. St. Stephens Basilica

St. Stephen’s Basilica is another spot in Budapest that promises great Instagram content. While there’s an entrance fee to explore the interior, you’ll find that the exterior is just as photogenic, and snapping pictures here won’t cost you a penny.

In my experience, one of the lesser-known yet one of the best photo spots in Budapest is the spiral staircase leading to the viewing platform on top of the cathedral. It’s a hidden gem in Budapest that will add a unique and artistic touch to your feed.

7. Chain Bridge

Unfortunately, the Chain Bridge was under construction when I visited

During my last visit to Budapest, I found that the iconic Chain Bridge was under construction, which was a bit of a downer since there was scaffolding everywhere and I wasn’t able to cross the bridge on foot.

However, even with the ongoing work, the bridge still held a certain charm. Its majestic stone arches and the mighty Danube river flowing below create a picturesque setting that is hard to resist.

And it’s very impressive to think that this mighty river plays a part in the creation of tap water in Budapest.

8. Liberty Bridge

Liberty Bridge: My favourite bridge in Budapest

The Liberty Bridge, with its distinctive green hue and art nouveau design, is a refreshing sight in the heart of Budapest. And in my opinion it’s the most beautiful bridge in Budapest.

This bridge is more than just a connection between Buda and Pest, it’s a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to hang out and soak in the views. Some people even meet at the bridge and sit on it.

Whether you’re capturing the early morning calm or the vibrant energy during the afternoon, this bridge offers a versatile backdrop for your Instagram feed.

9. Széchenyi Baths

Szechenyi, one of the best thermal baths Budapest has to offer
Szechenyi is the most popular thermal bath in Budapest

The Széchenyi Baths hold the title of being the most famous thermal baths in Budapest, and it’s not hard to see why. With their vibrant yellow buildings and luxurious pools, they offer a truly photogenic setting.

However, I must admit, they aren’t my favourite thermal baths in Budapest. The reason? They tend to attract large crowds, which can sometimes detract from the peaceful experience one might seek at a thermal bath.

But, if you’re in looking for the best Instagram spots in Budapest, this place is undeniably a top spot. The architectural beauty and the vibrant atmosphere provide a rich canvas for your Instagram feed, even if it’s a bit too bustling for my personal taste.

10. Gellért Thermal Baths

If you’re looking to escape the crowds at Széchenyi, the Gellért Thermal Bath might just be your haven. Nestled at the foot of Gellért Hill, this bath offers a more tranquil and relaxed atmosphere.

The Art Nouveau architecture, with its intricate mosaics and stunning stained glass windows, provides a beautiful backdrop for your photos. And if you’re not in the mood for going for a swim the entrance hall alone is stunning at the Gellért thermal baths.

In the entrance hall to the Gellért thermal baths is also a little shop selling swimwear, towels and some spa items like soap, which make for a great gift from Budapest.

A bit unrelated to Budapest Instagram places, you can get great massages in thermal baths or in one of the massage parlours in Budapest. Just thought you might want to know since I loved the massages I got after walking around all day.

11. Heroe’s Square

The most impressive square in Budapest

Heroes’ Square stands as a grand tribute to Hungary’s rich history, making it a significant spot to include in your Budapest itinerary.

The square is home to an impressive array of statues representing various historical figures, offering a great backdrop for your photos.

While it’s a popular spot, it doesn’t feel as crowded as some other tourist attractions, allowing you to take your time to find the perfect angle for your shots.

12. Vajdahunyad Castle

How magical does Vajdahunyad Castle look?

Vajdahunyad Castle is a true gem, it’s one of the incredible things in Budapest, offering a rich blend of architectural styles that range from Gothic to Baroque. This makes it one of the best photography spots in Budapest.

The castle, nestled in the heart of City Park, provides a picturesque setting with its reflection on the lake, especially during the autumn season when the leaves turn into vibrant hues.

While the exterior is a visual treat, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the interior courtyards and hidden corners, where you can find unique angles for your photos.

13. New York Café

Fanciest café in Budapest

Stepping into the Budapest New York Café is like entering a world of opulence and luxury. Renowned as the most beautiful café in the world, it doesn’t disappoint with its lavish interiors featuring golden stucco and grand chandeliers.

But to be completely honest, I think the New York Café in Budapest is a bit overrated, the prices are insane for what you get and you have to wait a long time for a table. But anyway, it is one of the most Instagrammable places in Budapest.

And even though the prices are a deep steep for Budapest, they are still average compared to other European cities.

14. Szimpla Kert Ruin Bar

Szimpla Kert: the most famous ruin bar in Budapest

Dive into the heart of Budapest’s vibrant nightlife with a visit to one of the city’s ruin bars, the most famous being Szimpla Kert. This place is a bustling hub of creativity and eclectic charm. Almost every inch is adorned with quirky art and graffiti.

However, if you’re keen to truly appreciate the eclectic art pieces that adorn its walls, a daytime visit is highly recommended. In the quieter hours, you can leisurely explore the space, discovering a treasure trove of art installations and quirky décor at every corner.

15. Margaret Island

In the midst of Budapest’s bustling city life, Margaret Island serves as a breath of fresh air. This island, nestled in the heart of the Danube River, is a haven of tranquillity and natural beauty.

But don’t worry, even though it’s an island, Margaret Island is accessible by public transport and even on foot.

It’s a place where you can escape the crowds and enjoy a peaceful stroll amidst lush gardens and flowing fountains. The island also offers picturesque spots like the rose garden, the Japanese gardens and the musical fountain, providing a serene backdrop for your Instagram photos.
