The 11 Best All-Vegan Restaurants in Bristol (2024)
Bristol is one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the United Kingdom. You can find vegan options in most places but there are also many all-vegan restaurants in Bristol.
And since I love going to all-vegan restaurants I managed to go to the best vegan restaurants Bristol has to offer in the city centre during my last trip to the city.
Best vegan restaurants in Bristol England
1. Pastan
Pastan is the best vegan restaurant Bristol has to offer if you’re in the mood for pasta. They have multiple outlets in the UK, the first time I went to Pastan was in Manchester. And the pasta is so good I had to go again in Bristol.
They have a mix of traditional flavours, like carbonara, and innovative combinations, like lemon ginger. All the pasta dishes I’ve tried so far have been very good. Especially the carbonara with extra shiitake mushroom was amazing.
The only downside is the price, one pasta dish is between £15 and £20. But they have a special deal if you go during lunch. Then the price per pasta dish is reduced to £10.
2. Fi Real
Fi Real is a vegan Caribbean restaurant on West Street. It’s a nice atmosphere inside and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately, I realized I don’t like Caribbean food because it’s too spicy for me.
I asked for the least spicy item on the main menu and my mouth was still burning. In fairness I can’t handle spicy food at all, I think a dish is too spicy if there’s too much black pepper or ginger in it.
Even though I personally wouldn’t go there again I still think it’s a great place if you like Caribbean food or if you’d like to try it for the first time.
3. Koocha Mezze Bar
Koocha Mezze Bar is a bit of a walk outside the city centre but it’s worth it if you like Persian and middle easter food.
We went for two large plates because we were so hungry, they were good but a bit too spicy for my taste. So, actually, I regretted not getting a few Mezze plates to share.
They also have a great selection of cocktails and mocktails. We went for a watermelon and a rose mocktail which were very tasty and I loved the fresh blueberries in my watermelon mocktail.
4. The Old Bookshop
The Old Bookshop is a pub selling a wide selection of European beer and vegan German fast food. It’s like a British pub where you order at the bar and tell them your table number if you want some food.
I don’t drink beer so I can’t really say much about the beer selection besides that the beer menu was very extensive.
For food, I had some traditional vegan Currywurst with Sauerkraut. It was a very tasty snack. The Bratwurst on top of the fries tasted very good but the consistency was very tense. And the Sauerkraut added a nice contrast to the loaded fries.
Every Monday they host a pub quiz at the Old Bookshop, this is just one of the cool things to do in Bristol.
Best vegan fast food in Bristol
5. Oowee Vegan
Oowee Vegan is an all-vegan fast-food restaurant which sells burgers, loaded fries and milkshakes. There are multiple locations of Oowee Vegan in Bristol. Like in a traditional fast food place you order and pay at the counter and get everything packed in paper on a plastic tray.
We at the signature the big Oowee burger, an ocean burger and double dirty fries.
The ocean burger is like the the traditional dish fish and chips in burger form. There’s a vegan fried fish, sauce tartar and mashed peas in the burger. I really liked the vegan fish and the mashed peas in the burger. But all in all I liked the signature burger better than the fish burger.
The highlight of the loaded fries for me was the super crunchy fried onion pieces but the cheese sauce was also very tasty.
6. VX Bristol
VX Bristol is the best place for vegan fast food in Bedminster, an area south of Bristol city centre, known for its street art. They serve different kinds of fast food, like burgers and wraps, and they also have a little shop attached to the restaurant.
We had a burger and loaded nachos because ever since I spent some time in Barcelona I just love eating loaded nachos. To be honest, the nachos at VX can’t quite compete with vegan loaded nachos in Barcelona but they were still good and it was a very generous serving size.
At VX you can also get a monster milkshake with whipped cream and a doughnut on top. It’s the perfect thing for every sweet tooth and I’d go as far as saying it’s a very unique thing to do in Bristol since I’ve never seen a shake like that before.
There’s also a small shop at VX Bristol selling vegan treats and cooking staples alike. It’s a great place to look for special British vegan treats you might have trouble finding in a normal supermarket.
7. VeBurger
VeBurger is a vegan burger restaurant at the Wapping Wharf in one of the containers at Cargo2, a very cool location.
Unfortunately, VeBurger was closed when I visited the city so I didn’t have a change to try the food for myself.
Best vegan cafés in Bristol
8. East Village Café
East Village Café is the best vegan cafe Bristol has to offer in my opinion. I loved everything about it, the location in a cute little street, that they use products from neighbouring shops, the nice atmosphere and of course the food and drinks.
I had a scrabbled tofu sandwich and an iced lavender match latte. A lavender matcha Latte, how cool is that? They have so many delicious-sounding fancy lattes either hot or cold. The sandwich was freshly toasted and ver nice with the side salad.
They also have a selection of puffed pastries and cake. Unfortunately, I was too full to try any of them but they looked really good.
Inside the East Village Café is also a small shop selling a few vegan treats but mainly decorative items, candles and so on. The shop items give the vegan café a homey atmosphere.
9. Eden Café Clifton
Eden Café Clifton is in a very hip neighbourhood with small alleys packed with local shops and small cafes. It has a few small outdoor tables and more on the inside.
They sell mainly bowls and sandwiches but the best part is that they have vegan afternoon tea. It’s recommended that you book the afternoon tea at least one day in advance.
I just love afternoon tea because you get a selection of different dishes, so we had to get that.
For 20£ per person, you get tea, two sandwiches, a small prawn cocktail, a scone, a slice of cake and half a doughnut. At least that’s what we got when we went there for the afternoon tea but online it says the selection can change.
It wasn’t the most fancy afternoon tea but the food was good, very filling and that all for a very reasonable price.
10. Cafe Kino
Café Kino is a non-profit vegan restaurant and community centre. But contrary to the name it’s not a cinema (Kino means cinema in German).
My boyfriend, who is from the UK said it looks like a traditional British Cafe. And I realised we might have different definitions of cafés. Cafe Kino is a vegan restaurant selling English breakfast before noon and burgers afterwards.
They have more deep-fried things than I expected from a café. So, I’d have categorised Cafe Kino more as a vegan fast food place than a vegan cafe but it’s still a nice place for a cake and coffee as well.
We visited shortly before they closed so the cake selection was very limited but I really enjoyed the cookie and my matcha latte. And I read online that it’s supposed to be one of the best places for vegan breakfast in Bristol.
Best vegan ice cream in Bristol
11. The Happy Cow
The Happy Cow is an all-vegan ice cream truck which is usually parked at Narrow Quay. It sells vegan soft ice cream with a choice of a topping and sauce.
The ice cream is massive, it was almost too much for me to finish and I realised I like normal ice cream more than soft ice cream. But I still enjoyed my ice cream and the cone was very good as well and crunchy.
If you’ve loved soft ice cream before you went vegan you have to try ice cream from The Happy Cow.
Make sure to check on social media if the ice cream truck is there before you head there. It’s not there all year round and even in summer it’s not there the whole day.
