Are you looking for the best hidden gems Liverpool has to offer? I’ve got you covered!
Liverpool has so many amazing things to do, like strolling down the Royal Albert Docks to name just one, that many people forget to look for the hidden places in Liverpool.
I’ve been to this beautiful city a few times now and every time I discover a new hidden gem in Liverpool, that’s what makes the city so amazing and worth visiting. Just wander off the beaten track and you’ll discover amazing new things.
The 13 best hidden gems in Liverpool
1. Recreate the Abbey Lane Cover
The city of Liverpool is most famous for being the home of the Beatles, England’s most famous band. Walking down Mathew Street and maybe having a drink at the Cavern Club are two very popular things to do and definitely not one of the unusual things to do in Liverpool.
One of Liverpool’s hidden gems regarding the Beatles is the street art piece of the Album cover Abbey Road. I stumbled upon it accidentally when I was walking to the Baltic Triangle.
The piece was commissioned by The Beatles Story for the 50th anniversary of the album in 2019. Today the paint is already a bit faded but it still makes for a great photo opportunity.
The chance to experience all these amazing Beatles things is just one of the reasons why Liverpool is one of the best cities in the UK to visit.

2. Have a good drink at Berry and Rye
Having a cocktail at Berry and Rye is literally one of the best secret things to do in Liverpool. It’s the best hidden bar Liverpool has to offer.
The cocktail bar is hidden in plain sight, it’s located inside a building with no sign on it at all and you have to knock to be let in. This makes it a very unique experience and it feels like in the times of the prohibition.
It’s a bit embarrassing, but when I visited I actually knocked on the wrong door at first. Online I read it’s the building with the blue door and it is but don’t knock on the blue door. I only saw later that the glass door even has a tiny sign that you should knock there.
The cocktail menu is printed in the middle of an old book which gives it a very cool look. And before you get your cocktail you get a delicious pallet cleanser so you can taste the cocktail better afterwards.
3. Find the right suitcase
This piece of art is another hidden gem I accidentally stumbled upon while I was walking down Hope Street from the Liverpool Cathedral to the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral in the Georgian Quarter.
At first, I thought it was just a random pile of suitcases which you can use instead of a bench if you want to rest a bit. Then I found out that quite a few luggage pieces have name plaques on them of famous who have something to do with Liverpool.
So, you can just look at the suitcases and see who’s suitcase you can find or you can check the information sign and look through the names.
4. Have a coffee on Queen Avenue
Queen Avenue is probably the cutest alley in Liverpool. It’s just off Castle Street, hidden behind a gateway. Walking down Queens Avenue almost feels like walking down Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter books.
There are a few small shops and cafĆ©s. It’s the perfect place to sit down and have a cup of coffee or tea away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
5. Live music at the bombed out church
Okay, St Luke’s bombed-out church might not be that much of a hidden gem but it’s one of the quirky things to do in Liverpool. In summer, it’s a great place to listen to some live music.
When there’s live music they put up benches and a stall selling drinks. Otherwise, you can just walk around and have a look at the bombed out church.
The church is located in Liverpool city centre at the end of Bold Street, a popular street known for its small restaurants, bars and local shops.
If you like abandoned churches there is also a bombed-out church in Bristol, in which you can walk around in.

6. Read a book at the Central Library
The Central Library in Liverpool is located right next to the World Museum, one of the free-to-visit National Museums Liverpool.
The library is located inside a beautiful historic building. It’s just so pretty that I had to have a look inside. Inside you won’t believe you’re in the same building, it looks very modern, completely different to the outside.
Visiting the central library is the best way to spend a rainy day in Liverpool, you can get a good book and read for a bit in a beautiful building.
Another great thing to do in Liverpool when it rains is visiting one of the museums with free admittance.
7. Relax in Our Lady and St. Nicholas church gardens
Everyone visits the Royal Albert Dock and walks along the shore of River Mersey but few people notice the beautiful garden of Our Lady and St. Nicholas church located just a short walk from the waterfront.
It’s the perfect spot to relax on a bench on a sunny day with a view of the River Mersey and the church.
In the garden, you can also find one of the Homeless Jesus statues by Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz. You can find the all over the world and they are supposed to inspire a more compassionate life.
8. Buy some tea at the Liverpool Tea Warehouse
England is worldwide known for its tea culture, so what better place to buy some tea than England? Tea can be quite expensive though if you want good quality. Not so at this next hidden gem in Liverpool.
Buying some delicious loose tea at the Liverpool Tea Warehouse is one of the unique things to do in Liverpool. They sell high quality tea and infusions at a reasonable price.
9. Go shopping in the Red Brick Market
Red Brick Market also known as Baltic Market is the best independent market in the city. The most unusual stores, local artists and startup businesses all come together under one roof. So, it’s the ideal place if you want to buy something truly unique in Liverpool.
The market is in the Baltic Triangle, a very hip neighbourhood just on the edge of the city centre. And it’s surrounded by cool bars with a very relaxed atmosphere.
10. Play games at Sugar and Dice Board Game CafƩ
Everyone goes out to have a drink at a bar in the evening but one of the unique things to do in Liverpool is to go for a drink while playing some board games. And one of the best places to do that is at the Sugar and Dice Board Game CafƩ.
11. Admire street art on Gildart Street
The most famous street in Liverpool for street art is Jamaica Street but there’s also some amazing street art on Gildart Street. I found this street by chance and was really impressed by the pieces of art.

12. Have a pint in an all vegan pub
There are plenty of all-vegan restaurants in England but in Liverpool, there’s even a traditional vegan pub. As in a traditional pub you order and pay at the counter and the focus is on all the different beers they serve.
Liverpool’s vegan pub is called The Caledonia and they serve a range of alcoholic drinks and vegan junk food. It’s a cool place to have a drink in the evening.
13. Palm House at Sefton Park
Sefton Park is located quite a bit outside of Liverpool city centre. But it’s a great way to enjoy some nature near Liverpool.
The heart of Sefton Park is the famous Palm House, a beautiful Victorian-style glass house, which can be rented for private events.
