In this blog post, I will be sharing with you some of the most picturesque and Instagrammable places in KL that you won’t want to miss during your visit.

1. Thean Hou Temple
The Thean Hou Temple is a must-visit destination in Kuala Lumpur, and it’s my favourite Instagrammable place in KL.
As a matter of fact, I only thought about looking for more Instagrammable places in KL because I liked that picture of me at the Thean Hou Temple so much and I thought it was just perfect for Instagram.
The temple’s stunning architecture, colourful details, and intricate designs make it a photographer’s dream. From the ornate entrance gate to the towering pagoda, every corner of the temple offers a unique and picturesque backdrop for your Instagram feed.
The temple’s serene and peaceful atmosphere also adds to the allure, making it a perfect spot for capturing a moment of tranquillity in the midst of the bustling city.
2. Batu Caves
Batu Caves is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur, and it is also one of the best Instagrammable places in KL.
The main attraction, however, is actually not the caves themselves but the colourful steps leading up to the caves with a giant golden statue next to them.
The towering limestone caves and vibrant Hindu shrines provide a stunning backdrop for your photos, while the colourful steps leading up to the caves make for a unique and eye-catching shot.
The giant golden statue of Lord Murugan at the entrance of the caves is also a popular spot for Instagrammers.
Batu Caves is a bit outside the city centre of Kuala Lumpur but you can get to Batu Caves by public transport and it’s definitely worth visiting.
3. Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad
Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad is one of the oldest and most beautiful mosques in Kuala Lumpur, and it is also a great Instagrammable place in KL.
You need to be dressed appropriately to be able to enter the mosque. But you can borrow a robe at the mosque for free as well. And actually, I think the robe makes the picture even more Instagrammable.
The mosque’s stunning architecture and intricate details make it a photographer’s dream. The entrance gate and towering minarets next to some palm trees offer a unique and eye-catching shot.
The mosque’s serene and peaceful atmosphere also adds to its charm, making it a perfect spot for capturing a moment of tranquillity in the midst of the bustling city.
In my opinion, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad is even more picturesque than the National Mosque of Malaysia. But maybe that’s just because I prefer the old-style architectural look to the modern architecture of the National Mosque.
4. Petronas Towers
Petronas Towers is one of the most iconic landmarks in Kuala Lumpur and one of the great Instagrammable places in KL.
The Petronas Twin Towers are the tallest twin towers in the world and gazing up at them is one of the best free things to do in Kuala Lumpur.
The modern design of the towers provides a stunning backdrop for your photos. And the towering height of the buildings makes for a unique and impressive shot.
You can also enter the Petronas Tower and get a stunning view of the city skyline from the bridge that connects the two towers.
The surrounding park and fountains provide a beautiful setting for capturing the Petronas Twin Towers and their reflection in the lake.
5. I love KL sign
I just love city signs, they always make for a great photo op. And you can find them all over the world. In Malaga, Spain, and in Wellington, New Zealand, I was actually able to fill in for one letter since there’s one letter missing. In Kuala Lumpur, I just folded myself up to fit in between the letters.
You might be able to find a more Instagrammable photo pose but either way the “I Love KL” sign at the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is one of the most popular Instagrammable spots in the city.
The sign’s bright red colour and playful design make it a fun and eye-catching backdrop for your photos. Located right next to the main entrance of the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, the sign is often accompanied by a long line of tourists waiting to snap a photo.
6. Street art in Chinatown
In the midst of Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant Chinatown, you can find a haven of amazing Instagrammable places in KL: Kwai Chai Hong. Kwai Chai Hong is a project dedicated to showing its visitors the history of Chinatown with small art exhibitions and amazing street art.
During my time in Kuala Lumpur, I accidentally stumbled upon Kwai Chai Hong and was immediately drawn in by the many Instagrammable art exhibitions and street art you can visit for free.
I really recommend stepping into the small alleyway when you’re in Kuala Lumpur Chinatown.
In Chinatown, you can also find the best vegetarian restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, the Hungry Tapir.
7. River of Life
The River of Life project was launched by the Kuala Lumpur city government in 2011. The project aims to transform the Klang and Gombak rivers, which run through the heart of Kuala Lumpur, into vibrant and sustainable waterfronts.
The River of Life is not only a sustainable waterfront development project, but it is also a great Instagrammable spot in Kuala Lumpur.
The picturesque river is flanked by beautiful historic and modern buildings and a peaceful walk lane which makes it one of the best backdrops for your outdoor photoshoot KL has to offer.
My favourite spot was on a bridge with stunning views of the city’s oldest mosque, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, in the background. When I visited there was even an artificial fog coming from the river giving the picture a mystical touch.
8. Sultan Abdul Samad Building
The Sultan Abdul Samad Building is one of the most iconic landmarks in Kuala Lumpur and a great Instagrammable spot.
The building’s stunning architecture, with its distinctive Moorish design, intricate details, and imposing clock tower, offers a unique and picturesque backdrop for your photos.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of myself at the Sultan Abdul Samad Building because finding ways to take pictures of yourself all the time can be quite a challenge. That’s why taking a Kuala Lumpur Instagram Tour can be very handy when travelling alone.
9. Hotel with infinity pool
All the Instagrammable places in KL I’ve talked about up until now are completely free to visit. My last recommendation is not free but so worth it and not just for the amazing Instagrammable picture you’ll get. Stay in a hotel with an infinity pool.
You’ll have an amazing view of the skyline in Kuala Lumpur, you can go for a refreshing tip in cold water after exploring the city and you can have an incredible photoshoot at the infinity pool.
I personally stayed at the Ceylonz Starlight Suites Bukit Bintang and enjoyed the stunning views of the city from the rooftop infinity pool.
However, there are many affordable hotels in Kuala Lumpur that offer infinity pools, making them accessible to all travellers.
10. Perdana Botanical Garden
The Perdana Botanical Garden, also known as the Lake Gardens, is one of the most beautiful and serene places in Kuala Lumpur, and it is also a great Instagrammable spot in KL.
With its lush greenery, colourful flowers, and serene lake, the garden offers a picturesque backdrop for your photos.
You can take a leisurely stroll along the walking paths, cross charming bridges, and capture the beauty of nature in every shot, theoretically.
But unfortunately, it rained a lot when I visited. That’s why I didn’t have a chance to take a perfect Instagrammable picture at the botanical garden. It’s still a really nice garden and in nice weather it would be an amazingly picturesque place.

Final thoughts: Best picture spots in KL
Lately, I haven’t been very active on Instagram but seeing all those amazing Instagrammable places in Kuala Lumpur I couldn’t help myself but snap a few great pictures.
But it’s still important to focus on taking in the amazing scenery and to not focus to much on getting the perfect picture.
