Residence U Černé Věže Review: My Stay in České Budějovice
When I was planning my trip to České Budějovice, I only needed a place to stay for one night. Since the city is fairly compact, my main priority was finding something central and affordable so I could explore everything on foot.
That’s how I came across Residence U Černé Věže, a studio apartment just a few minutes’ walk from the Black Tower in the heart of the old town.
At first, I simply chose it because the price was very reasonable and the location looked perfect. But when I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. The apartment turned out to be much more stylish and spacious than I expected, especially for the price.
In this post, I’ll share what my stay at Residence U Černé Věže was like, what the apartment is really like, and whether I would recommend staying here when visiting České Budějovice.
First Impressions When Arriving
When I first arrived at the address, I was a little confused.
I had entered the address into Google Maps and walked there from the Black Tower. At the location, I saw an entrance passageway with a small sign for Residence U Černé Věže, so I assumed that was where I needed to go.
I walked inside, but had no idea where to go from there, so after a moment I went back out to the street again. That’s when I noticed that the actual reception is located a little further down the road. There are flags in front of the entrance and a large sign that says “Reception.”
Before arriving, the property also sent me a link to complete the check-in form online, which made the process quicker when I got to reception. You can also fill out the form there.
At check-in I still needed to pay the local tourist tax, which was 50 CZK.
Another thing to keep in mind is that because there is a physical reception desk, you need to pay attention to the check-in times listed when booking. The reception is not staffed all night, so if you plan to arrive late you’ll need to let them know in advance.

The Studio Apartment I Stayed In
The apartment I stayed in was a studio designed for two people, although I stayed there on my own for one night.
It was located on the top floor of the building, and I had to take the stairs to get there, which I don’t mind as I travel super minimalist anyway. There would have been elevator, but only up to the second floor.
The ceiling was slightly sloped in places, typical for attic-style apartments. What I really liked, though, was that you could still see some of the dark wooden beams in the ceiling. It created a really nice contrast between the historic building and the modern interior design.
When I entered the apartment, the first thing that surprised me was how spacious it felt.
The main room had a double bed, a couch, a TV, and a small dining table, along with a compact kitchenette. The bed was comfortable, and the overall design of the room felt clean, modern, and quite stylish.

The Bathroom (and Why I Actually Used It More Than Expected)
The bathroom in the apartment was surprisingly spacious and very modern.
It had dark tiles, a large shower, and a washing machine, which can be really useful if you’re staying for a few days. There was also a heated towel radiator, which is always nice because it means towels dry quickly.
I actually ended up using the bathroom more than I expected. On this trip I was traveling without a bag, so I had to wash my underwear in the sink. The heated radiator made it easy to dry everything overnight.
The Kitchenette (Good for Simple Meals)
The studio apartment also had a small kitchenette, which was perfectly fine for preparing simple meals.
It included basic equipment like small pots, a chopping board, and a kettle, along with a few other essentials. It’s not really designed for cooking elaborate meals every day, but it works well if you just want to make something quick.
That’s exactly what I ended up doing. After a day of exploring the city, I stopped by a grocery store and bought a ready-made ramen jar that only needed hot water. So I simply used the kettle to make a quick dinner in the apartment.
There was also free tea and instant coffee, which is always a nice touch. In addition, there were a few snacks available as part of a mini bar, but those were not included in the price.
For a short stay like mine, the kitchenette had everything I needed.
The Small Balcony: No View But Still Nice
The private balcony isn’t very large, but it’s a nice little extra. You can step outside for some fresh air or just sit for a moment after a day of exploring the city.
From the balcony, I could hear music from the restaurant downstairs. During my stay in March it was very quiet though, and I didn’t hear any noise once I went to bed.
That said, I can imagine the atmosphere being a bit livelier in summer, especially if people are sitting outside at the restaurant in the evening. So if you’re staying during the high season, you might notice a bit more activity at night.

Would I Stay Here Again?
Yes, I would definitely stay at Residence U Černé Věže again.
For me, the combination of a central location, stylish interior, and a very reasonable price made it a great choice for my stay in České Budějovice. Paying just €50.49 for a studio apartment in the middle of the old town felt like very good value.
The apartment itself was comfortable and had everything I needed for a short stay, including a kitchenette, a spacious bathroom, and even a small balcony. I also liked the mix of modern design with the historic wooden beams, which gave the apartment a bit of character.
