Minimalist Packing for 10 Days Without Doing Laundry
Packing for a 10-day trip can feel like you need to bring half your closet, especially when the weather forecast promises a bit of everything. But for a spring train trip through Budapest, Prague, and Brno, I still managed to fit everything into my personal-item-sized backpack.
Even though I had to prepare for some colder days, I stuck to my minimalist packing system. I didnโt plan on doing laundry during the trip (Iโm not a fan of hand-washing), so I made sure to pack enough without overpacking.
In this post, Iโll share exactly what I packed, how I kept it light, and what Iโd adjust depending on the season or destination. And honestly, this is more or less the same setup I use for longer trips.
Clothes to Bring for a 10-Day Trip
Hereโs everything I packed for my 10-day spring trip, including what I wore while traveling:
- Jeans: worn as part of my travel outfit
- Sweater: worn for travel and used throughout the trip as the weather was colder than expected, it was almost like on a winter packing trip
- Warmer jacket: needed for spring weather (I would skip it on a minimalist summer trip)
- 4 tops: a mix of short and long sleeves, depending on the season
- 1 long sleeve shirt: great for layering or sun protection
- 2 skirts: easy to dress up or down, and layer with tights
- 2 pairs of tights: I could even wear both at the same time underneath a skirt as the weather was quite cold (would swap for one pair of leggings in summer)
- Pajamas: comfortable and lightweight
- 10 pairs of underwear: one for each day (I only do laundry on longer minimalist trips)
- Bikini, sarong, and flip flops: for our visit to the thermal baths in Budapest (I wouldโve skipped these if there werenโt any bath plans)
Minimalist Toiletries
Since I donโt wear makeup, my toiletry kit is naturally quite small, and that helps a lot when packing light. Hereโs what I brought for this 10-day trip:
- Toothbrush + toothpaste: basic but essential
- Solid shampoo + soap: lasts longer, lighter, and wonโt spill
- Face lotion, body lotion & sun tan lotion: I just bring my normal containers which are smaller than 100ml anyway
- Hairbrush: the normal one I use at home as well, no need to buy anything special
- Nail clippers + file: I always bring these, even on short trips
- Reusable swab: a great alternative to disposable cotton swabs
Everything fit into a small toiletry bag and would have easily passed airport liquid restrictions, not that I needed it as it was a train trip, but itโs always a bonus for future flights.
Minimalist Tech Essentials
Hereโs what electronics I brought:
- Phone: obviously; used for photos, navigation, tickets and more
- Charger: shared between phone and power bank thanks to USB-C
- E-book reader: lightweight and perfect for reading on the train
- Power bank: just in case I was out all day and needed a recharge
- Head phones: for listening to podcasts and ebooks
If I were packing for a long-term trip, Iโd usually bring my laptop too, but for 10 days, this minimalist tech setup worked perfectly.
Other Things I Brought
Beyond clothes, toiletries, and tech, there are a few everyday essentials I never travel without, especially on minimalist trips like this one:
- Passport + wallet: the obvious essentials, always packed in an easy-to-reach spot
- Sunglasses: for sunny spring days
- Day trip bag: a foldable, lightweight bag I use for exploring cities during the day
- Reusable water bottle: cuts down on plastic and keeps me hydrated
- Packing cube: all of my clothes fit neatly into one cube for easier organization
- Double-sided packing cube: one side for clean underwear, the other for dirty laundry, makes keeping things fresh and sorted so much easier
Final Thoughts on this Minimalist Packing for 10 Days
A 10-day trip doesnโt mean you need to bring a massive suitcase, or even a full-sized carry-on. With just a personal-item-sized backpack, I had everything I needed for a spring adventure through Budapest, Prague, and Brno. No laundry, no overpacking, no stress.
